Milky Way Hunting

Support

Milky Way Hunting tells you when and where the Milky Way core and the Andromeda Galaxy are visible from where you are: a live star map, a compass mode that follows the phone, tonight's verdict and a calendar of the next 30 nights. It works offline and keeps everything on your phone.

Common questions

The compass points the wrong way

Hold the phone away from magnets (cases, car mounts, laptops) and move it in a figure-eight for a few seconds so the phone recalibrates. The app corrects for magnetic declination automatically, so the sky lines up with true north once the compass is calibrated.

The sky does not match what I see

Check the place shown at the top left of the Sky tab. Tap it, then Use my location or pick a place from the list. Times follow the phone's own clock and time zone.

Why does it say "moonlit" when the Moon is small?

Even a 40% Moon washes out the Milky Way. The app calls a night moonless when the Moon is set or less than 10% lit, and "OK" up to 45%.

Does the app need internet or an account?

No. Star catalogues and the astronomy are built in. There is no account, no ads and no tracking; see the privacy policy.
